Fumis Shrimp Truck-Oahu

We finally made it to Oahu after 3 days of traveling!
One of our first meals in Oahu was at Fumis Shrimp truck. Although this was not the shrimp truck featured on the Food Network (more on that one later!), it was the best one of the two!
We pulled up on it by accident, but what a great accident that was!
It was raining but fortunately they had a "tent" dining area. We placed our orders and in less than 10 minutes we all (7 dishes) had our food.
All dishes are served with 2 scoops of white rice (all over the island) which soaks up all the sauces.
Our daughter ordered Pork chop Katsu which is nothing more than the Asian version of breaded pork (or chicken tenders). They were plain but not bad. Stick with the shrimp!
We ordered lemon pepper shrimp which was a perfect balance of both flavors. We also ordered the spicy shrimp. This was by far the best dish of the day in my book! The shrimp were cooked in a light reddish sauce and perhaps a little too oily (this is where the rice comes in handy). They were garlicky, spicy, and delicious! The heat will make your nose run, but is is definitely worth the drive. Fumis harvests their own shrimp daily which makes for great tasting dishes.
One great thing about Fumis (aside from their shrimp!) is that they have a sink for customers to wash their hands after peeling saucy shrimp!

Mahalo Fumis for a great meal!

San Francisco Fish Company

On out recent trip to Oahu we were stranded in San Francisco. We decided to fly to Oahu on stand-by tickets which caused us to travel for 3 days before we reached our destination. While in San Francisco, we decided to explore. We took public transportation (very easy but not cheap) and made it to the ferry building on our first day. It took longer than expected and we had to return to the airport so we decided that the ferry building was far enough. We found the San Francisco Fish Company and decided to try something local. We picked the chowder in a bread bowl which was a hit with all of us hungry travelers! Unfortunately, I did not care for the chowder itself... It was not as creamy or tasty as expected. I loved the bread bowl!
After lunch we treated ourselves to gelato in the same building not too far from SFFC.
This was the only place for gelato, so it will not be hard to find. WOW! the flavor was incredible! I picked a dark chocolate scoop and a hazelnut scoop. Both were creamy and delicious! The flavors were intense and tasted like the real thing! Full and happy with our choices we head back to the airport. Fortunately/unfortunately, this was not our only day stranded in San Francisco...

Stay tuned for our next meal!
